Scottish Business in the Community
A major project to introduce a website content management system to Scottish Business in the Community at www.sbcscot.com. This project was completed early in 2007.
This involves a complete overhaul of the organisation's web based communication, business processes and digital content management.
Web publishing has been more tightly integrated into the business cycle, increasing the value of information shared. Collaboration has been highlighted and this will provide extra value to SBC and its members.Full training has been provided and each SBC staff member is able to add and edit content in their own specialism. This is done through the web browser and can also be performed remotely therefore increasing the timeliness, quality and value of the information shared.
The powerful, enterprise level, open source content management system Plone was used for this project. This is acclaimed for its usability and also its robust and scalable system architecture. The python programming language is used which is one of the most productive languages on the Web.SBC will also be able to fully track usage of the site through integration and training with Google Analytics. Also, an XML based feed of all the contents of the site is sent each day to Google using Google SiteMaps. This enhances the visibility of and timeliness of content within the Google search engine therefore greatly increasing traffic levels to the website.
Among the core initial customer facing features of this solution for SBC are the following:
- Complete site re-design with new information architecture
- Sign up to SBC events online
- Sign up to SBC email newsletters
- Take part in online surveys
- Feeds for news, events and press releases
- Read it on your mobile device
As a marketing tool this will greatly increase SBC's profile and levels of business.
